Joy’s friends have supported her during her physical challenges this year. She is my daughter-in-law and I am in awe of her and of her and of community of people who have stepped up to help.

Look around in your own life to see who it is you trust most. Who are your friends ? Who they are says a lot about you.

                THINK ABOUT THIS:

It’s important for you to be the kind of friend you want to have.

People can pretend to care, but real friends show up; you cannot pretend to show up.

Joy knows all this. She has demonstrated caring concern for so many. You can count on her to celebrate personal victories and to help pick up friends during trying times.

No wonder her “troops” have rallied.

There is no word for it in English, but the Japanese have a term,  KENZOKU,  which translated literally means “family.” It describes a special bond between unrelated people who’ve made a commitment and who may share a similar destiny. It speaks to the deepest connection of friendship.

Consider your self really rich if you have one or two…. or three  KENZOKU… BFF’s… who are willing to make you a priority.

Whether it’s carving out some time for a catch-up call or planning a visit, genuine friends seem to know what to do. They know…

1.To ask you what help you need

2.To go the distance to deliver

3.To hang in when the going gets tough

4. To express love with words

5. To offer “I’ve got your back” assurance

6. To respect privacy

7. To keep promises

8. To show up

Remember the old  song… “I get by with a little help from my friends”?

The Beatles knew what they were talking about.

I’ve always told my Lizzie…”the best way to have a friend is to be a friend”. She is lucky. So am I.
